NMA California Alert: Second Ban the Cams Rally in Alameda County

The Red Light Camera Protest Group plans a second Ban The Cams Rally on Saturday, March 17th.
  • Where:  Corner of Mowry Ave. and Fremont Blvd., Fremont. (Protesters can pick up signs behind the Valero gas station.)
  • When: 1:00 pm
  •  Why: Because red-light cameras are all about revenue and not about safety.
According to the group’s flyer:
  • Cities can extend the length of yellow lights by less than one second and cut violations in half.
  • Over 50,000 tickets, $480 each, are issued annually just in Alameda County extracting $20 million from the local economy for no good reason.
  • Cities aggressively enforce low-speed right-turn violations at nearly $500 per violation not for safety reasons but for profit. There is no data supporting such aggressive enforcement.

NMA State Alert for Florida: Join a Lakeland Red-Light Camera Protest Saturday April 17th

Saturday April 17th, the NMA will be participating in a protest against Lakeland's red-light cameras. We need you to particpate in this important protest against red-light cameras. This is particularly important because it is going to occur in Senator Paula Dockery's hometown.

Senator Dockery is a candidate for governor who is challenging Bill McCollum in the primary. She was the sole vote against red-light cameras in the Senate Transportation Committee. In addition, Lakeland has been the center of a controversy concerning a couple of police cars that have failed to be ticketed by the cameras.

Send an e-mail to State Activist Henry Stowe at floridamotorist@gmail.com or call him at 407-375-8445 to find out how you can help the cause by participating on Saturday April 17, 2010.

The protest will be held at  N. Florida Avenue @ Memorial Blvd. (US92 and US98) at the southeast corner in Lakeland at 12 Noon.

We need to continue the momentum that we have gained in the fight against red-light cameras in Florida. We are at a critical stage, and your help is needed at the protest to make politicians and the media sit up and take notice of the opposition to photo enforcement programs.

NMA State Alert for Florida: We Need Your Help for RLC Protests February 27th

Saturday February 27th --- yes, this Saturday --- has been designated as a statewide red-light camera protest day by the NMA.  We need participants to help in the following cities to show those communities that they don't have to just sit back and accept unfair revenue-generating tactics used by city administrators and camera contractors.

  • Miami area (Aventura)
  • Orlando
  • Palm Coast
  • Tampa area (Temple Terrace)

Send an e-mail to State Activist Henry Stowe at floridamotorist@gmail.com or call him at 407-375-8445 to find out how you can help the cause by participating on Saturday.

There was some welcome news earlier this week.  A judge in Aventura ruled that the city's red-light cameras are not valid per Florida state law.  The city can appeal that ruling so it is critical, now more than ever, that local residents show a determined resistance against ticket cameras.
