NMA State Alert for Massachusetts: Municipal Relief Bill Stripped Down

On April 26 the state House of Representatives debated the Municipal Relief Bill. Largely thanks to lobbying by our friends at the "Citizens for Limited Taxation," the House leaders stripped from the bill many provisions including a provision that would have allowed cities and towns to raise property taxes above the annual limits established by Proposition 2½.

In a little bit of good news for motorists, the Legislators also stripped from the bill a provision that sought to increase the annual $29 inspection fee for motor vehicles by $6. The money from the proposed increase was supposed to be used for police training.
